Local Grocery Delivery Company is On a Mission to Make Local and Sustainable Foods Convenient and Accessible to All Communities

In 2007, husband-and-wife duo Matt Ewer and Beth Blessing co-founded Green Bean Delivery, an online grocery service that partners with hundreds of farmers and artisans from around the Midwest to deliver wholesome foods directly to your home or office. Even with fierce competition in the grocery delivery industry, Green Bean Delivery has managed to stay dedicated to their mission in making local and sustainable foods convenient and accessible to all communities. We sat down with James Nimmer, the Director of Partnerships & Engagement of Green Bean Delivery, to learn more about this Indianapolis based company.

Can you give us a little background on Green Bean Delivery?

Green Bean Delivery started in 2007, in Indianapolis by co-founders Matt Ewer and Beth Blessing to make local and regionally produced foods that are free of unnatural ingredients more accessible throughout the community. Over the years, the service has expanded into other Midwest communities and the product selection has greatly increased. There are no contracts or membership fees to shop with Green Bean Delivery, just a $20 minimum in groceries per order. Shoppers have the option to subscribe to a produce bin that features seasonal produce, set up their own custom subscription with their favorite groceries, or sign in and shop whenever they’re simply needing to restock their fridge.

Why is Green Bean Delivery important to the Local food system and why did Indianapolis become home for the headquarters?

The co-founders both grew up in Indiana and noticed that a concept like Green Bean Delivery wasn’t available in the Indianapolis area, let alone the majority of the Midwest. Green Bean Delivery has provided a platform for many Indianapolis food-producers to make their foods available to audiences who may not be familiar with their brand. This has allowed many of our food-producers to grow their operation and expand upon their product selection. Green Bean has also been dedicated to giving back to the community by supporting local non-profit events and donating food that is nearing its expiration date to our food rescue partners at Second Helpings, who turn those ingredients into thousands of meals that benefit Indianapolis residents who are food insecure.

Do you serve all of Indiana? Is Green Bean Delivery planning to expand to other states?

Green Bean Delivery is available, within the Greater Indianapolis Area, Greater Ohio Area, Louisville, KY, and St. Louis, MO. We’re proud to serve smaller communities throughout Indiana, including Muncie, Columbus, Kokomo, Lafayette, Marion, Greensburg, Batesville, and Anderson.

Is there anything else you would like to share about Green Bean Delivery?

Green Bean Delivery also has a mobile app (free to download), which means you can shop whenever, wherever you like. Orders are due by no later than 10 a.m. the day before the shopper’s scheduled delivery day, which allows our team to procure the product, then pack it into a reusable green bin that contains a liner and ice pack, which allows the food to stay cold for hours. This means that our members don’t need to be home when we deliver their order. Then the next time we deliver an order, they simply leave their old bin on their front porch and we’ll swap it out, allowing us to reuse our packaging and be more environmentally sustainable.

Green Bean Delivery is offering our readers 20% off their first 3 orders. To get started head over to www.greenbeandelivery.com and use code BeWellindy at checkout.
